History

The paralympics was established for athletes with a disability to compete in a diverse range of sports at an elite level. It's name derives from the Olympics and the 'para' prefix indiactes that it is parrallel to the Olympics.
The Paralympic Games were first introduced in 1960 in Rome, Italy which consisted of 400 athletes from 23 countires. The games were only available to athletes in wheelchairs but has since developed into multidisciplinary events with numerous classifications to ensure equality across all fields.
